YMCA of Greater Charlotte Receives $500,000 Grant from Truist Charitable Fund

May 8, 2025

The YMCA of Greater Charlotte has received a $500,000 grant from Truist Charitable Fund to fuel its teen development strategy through Future Leaders Ignited, the Y’s comprehensive teen initiative. This investment supports programs that equip youth with the tools to achieve financial wellness, pursue higher education and thrive as the next generation of leaders in Charlotte’s workforce and communities.

“Thanks to the generous support of Truist Charitable Fund, we are expanding access to vital teen programs that uplift, empower and ignite the potential in every young person we serve,” said Sue Glass, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte. “This partnership is a meaningful investment in the future of our youth and the long-term health and well-being of our community.”

The Future Leaders Ignited strategy includes Y signature programs like Y Leaders and the Rising Kings program. With Truist’s funding, new layers of support and access will be introduced across teen programs, including:

  • Truist Life, Money, and Choices™: Now embedded in all teen programming, offering financial education curriculum and regular volunteer-led office hours for teens to ask financial questions.

  • College Pathways: A comprehensive roadmap to higher education, including FAFSA and scholarship workshops, SAT/ACT prep, mentorship with college students, on-campus experiences, and support for first-generation college-bound youth.

  • Program Expansion: Enhanced support for Y Leaders and the Rising Kings program.

The YMCA’s efforts align with its strategic pillar to Equip Our Youth, the Next Generation of Changemakers—a vision centered on building confident, resilient and healthy future leaders. This work directly supports improved youth well-being, increased educational attainment, reduced youth violence and isolation and greater access to economic mobility.

“Truist’s purpose is to inspire and build better lives and communities, and our investment in the YMCA of Greater Charlotte reflects that,” said Justin Rutledge, Charlotte market president for Truist. “The Truist Charitable Fund is proud to support programs that create meaningful access to education, financial wellness, and leadership development for local teens.”

Truist Charitable Fund was created to support local organizations aligned with Truist’s giving pillars: educational opportunity, leadership development, and thriving communities. This grant exemplifies Truist’s focus on removing barriers to education, investing in workforce development, and ensuring all youth have opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
