CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (May 1, 2023) – Stan Law, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte, announced his retirement today. Law has been with the Y in this role since January 2022, and with the YMCA in various associations and roles for more than 30 years. His last day with the organization will be June 2.
Law grew up in the Charlotte Y, learning how to swim as a camper at the Dowd YMCA. He began his career with the YMCA of Greater Charlotte as an afterschool counselor and worked his way up within the organization before taking on leadership positions at the YMCAs of Greater Washington (D.C.) and Greater Cincinnati. He then served as president and CEO of the YMCAs of Greater Birmingham (Ala.), and Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem, before taking on his role in Charlotte.
During his time in Charlotte, Law has led significant progress in rebuilding the Y from pandemic impacts, including substantial revenue growth and deficit reduction, along with the launch of a new membership model and program structure. First quarter financial results from 2023 exceeded projections.
“We thank Stan for his leadership of the YMCA of Greater Charlotte and celebrate his decades of service to the Y,” said Charles Bowman, board chair for the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
While the search for a new leader is underway, Gene Johnson, retired corporate executive, former YMCA board member, and longtime Y supporter, will serve as interim president and CEO.
