[Charlotte, NC – May 10, 2017] – Participants in the 11th Annual YMCA Camp Harrison Fishing Tournament will take to the lake next weekend to help make camp a reality for area youth in need. Through the generous support of 2017 tournament sponsors, YMCA Camp Harrison has raised nearly $50,000 to help fund camp scholarships for 50 youth this summer.
The tournament will take place on Friday, May 19. Participants will enjoy a day of unparalleled bass fishing on private Lake Broyhill. Teams will compete for the awards of biggest fish, heaviest fish, most fish, smallest bass and heaviest non-bass fish. Special thanks to all event sponsors and Snyder’s-Lance, Inc. in particular for making the tournament possible.
“We look forward to hosting the tournament every year,” says Dave Purcell, Executive Director of YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge. “The tournament provides not only a day of fellowship on the lake, but also provides a meaningful summer to many kids in our community who would not otherwise be able to experience camp. For many of these kids, it’s their first time being away from home. They meet new friends and engage with positive role models. Camp gives them an opportunity to build self-reliance and reach their greatest potential.”
Founded on the Y’s Christian values, YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge is dedicated to helping kids discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of counselors who care about them and believe in their potential. Located between Lenoir and North Wilkesboro, YMCA Camp Harrison at Herring Ridge has over 2,000 acres of woods, streams, and trails to explore, including a 144 acre private lake.
