- Beginning December 15, 2008, all children twelve years old and younger will be swim tested. For their safety, children who do not pass the swim test will be restricted to the shallow area of the pool and require adult supervision.
- Children attending birthday parties, afterschool, preschool and other specialty groups will be required to wear a life jacket if they do not pass the swim test.
The YMCA takes your life and the lives of your children very seriously. According to the Centers for Disease Control, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related deaths of children ages 14 and younger. A majority of drowning accidents occur because of the victim's inability to swim.
